Grinding is a precision operation that uses higher speed abrasive grinding wheel to remove material from a softer material. Process problems at shop floor level are solved by manufacturing engineers using intuition or experience. But there are very few engineers who use in-process signals and process science to solve problems/ improve the grinding process. The intent is to develop a framework for automatic processing of signals obtained during the grinding processes and use rule-based algorithms to make guidelines for problem solving and process improvement. The intent is to bring the science of grinding actively for shop floor manufacturing with the help of microscopic interactions taking place during grinding, further integrate it with Big Data Analysis.
